HOUSTON –- Police responded to an early-morning smash-and-grab in east Houston on Thursday.
It happened at the Exxon gas station along the East Freeway at Lathrop Street around 2:15 a.m., according to Houston police.
Police said a man with a crow bar smashed through the store’s glass doors, even though a clerk was inside at the time.
The clerk ran to the back of the store and locked himself in as the suspect grabbed a cash register and ran back outside, ripping cords along the way.
Police said the crook got away with the register, which had only about $100 in it.
