HOUSTON—There was more legal drama Tuesday afternoon in the fight over Houston’s red light cameras.

Houstonians recently voted to remove the cameras, but the city still has a contract with American Traffic Solutions, the company which owns and operates the cameras.

The city turned off the cameras and filed a lawsuit in federal court against ATS in order to determine how much damages it needs to pay under the contract, which doesn’t expire until 2014.

The people who started the petition drive to put red light cameras to vote are also filing a motion in federal court. They say they would like to intervene in the federal lawsuit in support of the city.
