HOUSTON—An early morning chase turned into a trip to the hospital for a suspect who tried to run away on foot and was struck by his own pickup truck, police said.

The chase came to an end around 2 a.m. Monday on Ella Boulevard at Clear Valley Drive, according to the Houston Police Department.

HPD said officers tried to stop two people in a red pickup truck, but the driver refused to pull over. After a brief chase, the driver and passenger jumped out and ran.

The passenger got away, but the driver ran in front of the truck and ended up getting hit by the moving vehicle. Police said the driver left the truck in drive when he jumped out, causing it to keep moving. The truck then struck two patrol cars before coming to a stop.

The suspect was sent to the hospital in serious condition, but his injuries were said to be non-life threatening.

No officers were injured.

HPD did not say what the suspects were wanted for.
