MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas –- A deputy and a chase suspect were sent to the hospital following a crash and shooting overnight, Montgomery County Pct. 4 deputies said.
Officials said just before 9 p.m. Sunday a deputy spotted a truck pulling a travel trailer with no tail lights on Loop 494 in Porter. The deputy attempted to stop the Chevrolet pickup, but the driver apparently refused to pull over.
The pickup's driver ran other drivers off the road and then struck another deputy’s SUV at FM-1485. The suspect then turned onto 1485 where he ran into a ditch.
Deputies said the man in the pickup refused orders to get out of the vehicle and instead tried to crawl into the back seat to get something off the floor board. An officer, fearing for his safety, fired three shots through the windshield, hitting the suspect in his buttocks.
The suspect, later identified as 27-year-old Chase Moore of Splendora, was sent to Ben Taub Hospital. The deputy whose SUV he hit was also sent to the hospital.
Investigators determined both the pickup and the travel trailer were recently stolen.
