HOUSTON -- A suspect involved in a slow-speed chase on Houston’s southside Thursday came to a stop but refused to get out of his car for more than an hour.

The chase was reported around noon after Houston police said they tried to stop a driver in the 3000 block of Wilmington.

The driver, who was in a dark Chevrolet Impala, allegedly refused to pull over and kept driving through a neighborhood at a slow rate of speed. He eventually stopped on Allegheny Street near Yellowstone Boulevard.

Views from Air 11 showed police positioned behind the suspect’s vehicle with guns drawn. The man appeared to be in verbal contact with the officers but still refused to get out

The suspect eventually handed himself over to police shortly after 1 p.m.

Police said a SWAT team was on the way to the scene when the suspect gave up.
