HOUSTON—CenterPoint Energy said more than 5,200 smart meters were overcharging customers in the Houston area.
The meters read and stored the correct amount of usage, but then they added an average of 70 extra kilowatt hours to each bill.
That came out to about $7 in extra charges to hundreds of customers.
CenterPoint said those customers will be refunded.
