HOUSTON -- Some beautiful machines are going on the auction block at Reliant Center this weekend.
It’s like a high-end car show filled with all the shimmer and shine. But at this show, you can buy everything you see if your pocketbook is big enough!
This is the second year the Mecum Auction stopped in Houston. This year, more than 1,100 cars and trucks will be on the block.
"Reminds me of my youth,” said one buyer of a 1936 hot rod.
Antonio Burnett is in Houston for the weekend from Austin. He thinks he will get at least three cars at this weekend’s auction. He’s got his eye on a 1930 Ford Model A.
"It is a roadster with a rumble seat,” said Burnett. “It's got the really right options for a Model A."
It's not just about price or quality; it's the thrill of the hunt.
"It is definitely the hunt, you know, trying to find a jewel where most people don't recognize it," said Burnett. "I just think it would have been cool to have been born in that era."
Burnett was in the bidding up to $15,000, but the 80-year-old ride sold to another buyer for $23,000.
There’s no such thing as a price too high for Jack Meketi. He was on the way to Arkansas to buy two classics, but was selling a 2001 Corvette Coupe in Houston first.
"There is pressure in that," Meketi said, unable to do anything but watch his Corvette sell for $12,500, a touch under what he was hoping for.
The Mecum Auction runs through Saturday at Reliant Center.
