HOUSTON, Texas—Chartered jumbo jets carrying hundreds of Carnival Triumph passengers landed at Bush Intercontinental Airport Friday. It was the last leg of a nightmare journey.

“I’m scared of flying but I didn’t care,” said Liza Mendoza. “I just wanted to get on the plane and come home.

Carnival hired Delta Air Lines to ferry passengers from New Orleans. The airline made 11 trips to get passengers home.

The planes landed in a special area at Bush Airport because the passengers never went through security in New Orleans. Because the flight was a charter, they were able to skip the normal TSA checkpoint.

Once in Houston, passengers were given water and access to bathrooms. They were then either bussed to the port in Galveston or to the terminal to meet waiting family.

Many people were so happy to get off the ship, they didn’t complain about conditions. Some even praised the Triumph crew.

“The crew did an amazing job, that’s what I want to commend them for,” said one of the arriving passengers.
