HOUSTON—A cargo ship caught fire in the Houston Ship Channel early Wednesday morning. Houston firefighters were called to the scene around 1 a.m. When they arrived, they found heavy smoke coming out of the front of a ship called the Chipolbrok, which was docked in the water. No one was onboard the vessel at the time. Firefighters said there had been some workers doing welding work inside the belly of the ship earlier in the night, but they’d left around midnight. Officials believe some empty crates and debris near where the workers were welding caught fire. Firefighters brought in a fire boat to help fight the blaze, and they were able to prevent disabling damage to the ship. No one was injured.
