Memorial Park accident
HOUSTON -- A bicycle rider was struck and killed by a car while trying to cross a road in Memorial Park on Monday evening, Houston police said.
Officers with the Houston Police Department said the incident happened around 7:30 p.m.
Police said Jon Lennard was on a bike traveling westbound in the 6700 block of Memorial Drive when he turned to cross the road at an intersection. The driver of an older model Chevrolet Impala traveling in the same direction couldn’t stop in time and struck the rider.
The Houston Chronicle reported the impact caused the rider to be thrown at least 40 feet off his bike. Lennard was pronounced dead at the scene.
HPD said after the collision, the car swerved and hit a light pole. Its driver, 25, was taken to the hospital in unknown condition.
The investigation into the incident is continuing, and no charges were filed in the case, according to HPD.
