HOUSTON – Firefighters responded to a fire in a high-rise condo building across from Hermann Park late Monday.

It was a scary moment for residents as high up as the 20th floor.

Around 10:30 p.m. the Houston Fire Department was called to Mosaic Residential on Almeda Road. They found heavy smoke on some of the lower floors.

They quickly found a vehicle parked on the fifth floor parking garage fully engulfed. The fire was put out before it caused any damage to the building.

One resident said she started taking the stairs down to the lobby after the fire alarms went off.

“When I got to the fourth floor there was a fireman with the door blocked, and he said a vehicle in the parking garage had caught on fire,” said resident Janice Prevost. “He told me to just keep going down, and I went down and went outside.”

There was no early word as to what caused the vehicle to catch fire.
