CONROE, Texas – A woman is in critical condition after she was hit by a car while walking home from the grocery store Friday night near North Loop 336, police said.

The Conroe Police Department said that they started to receive calls of an auto-pedestrian accident at about 10:30 p.m. Shortly after, a woman came in saying she believed that she hit someone off North Loop 336 near Longmire.

Police arrived at the scene to find a woman in her mid-20s lying on the side of the road with grocery items scattered around her. The woman had been shopping at Walmart, and was on her way home when she was hit.

The victim had been walking with a cart full of groceries in an unlit area, which was not protected by a crosswalk, police said.

After she was stabilized at the scene, the victim was flown by PHI Air Medical to Herman Hospital in Houston.

Montgomery County Assistant District Attorney Andrew James, who is part of the Vehicular Crimes Unit, assisted CPD with the investigation, and they do not anticipate any charges.

Walmart’s management agreed to replace the items the victim had purchased in an effort to help her family.
