HOUSTON -– Police said one man was in custody and two others were on the run following an early-morning burglary at a Fiesta Mart in northwest Houston.

It was reported around 3 a.m. Wednesday at the Fiesta on Wirt Road near Kempwood Drive.

According to officers with the Houston Police Department, the store was closed at the time, but bakery workers were inside as three men smashed in. The workers apparently didn’t hear the glass shattering due to music inside the store, but someone else spotted the burglary in progress.

“A security officer in the area saw some males prying open the front door to the Fiesta ,” said HPD Lt. Larry Crowson.”

When officers arrived, the suspected burglars left in two separate cars. One vehicle got away while the other stopped outside a nearby apartment complex. Several stolen items were found inside the car, police said.

“They made entry and stole laptops, cigarettes, and baby formula,” said Lt. Crowson.

About 500 packs of cigarettes were found inside the car.

A detailed description of the suspects who got away was not available.
