COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- A Code Maroon emergency alert was issued on the campus of Texas A&M early Wednesday afternoon, a tweet from the school said.

"Code Maroon Bomb threat investigation at Kyle. Stadium and adjacent bldgs will be closed for remainder of day," read the tweet from ‏@TAMUCodeMaroon at 12:29 p.m.

More than 700 people were evacuated from the stadium and nearby buildings.

The buildings involved were Read, G. Rollie White, The Zone, West Kyle, Bright Athletics and Netum Steed.

The threat was written on the wall of a non-academic facility.

Police spent the afternoon searching the stadium.

It is not expected the evacuations will affect the Southeastern Conference swimming and diving championships scheduled for Wednesday night. This will be the first time in history an SEC championship event will take place on the A&M campus.

The school said updates on the situation would be provided on http://emergency.tamu.edu.
