HOUSTON – U.S. Coast Guard confirmed Sunday that a body found off the coast of Galveston is that of a Dallas native reported missing on Friday.
The body of Mark Williams, 21, was found when a jogger spotted it along the shoreline Sunday morning and called 911.
On Friday, Williams’ friends called the Galveston Police Department at approximately 7:30 p.m., reporting that he had been swept away by the strong current while swimming in San Luis Pass.
USCG officials said the San Luis Pass is notorious for strong rip currents. Swimmers are strongly urged to stay in areas that have lifeguards on duty.
