GALVESTON, Texas—The body of a Houston-area woman was found by tourists waiting for a restaurant to open near 37th Street and the Seawall Sunday morning.

The victim and three friends went swimming after leaving a Seawall bar, according to the Galveston County Beach Patrol, according to the Galveston County Beach Patrol.

Two got out of the water but the other two decided to stay in.

They ran into trouble when a current started carrying them away.

“They were only in about waist deep water,” says Beach Patrol Chief Peter Davis. “They really weren’t out that far, but they drifted along with the lateral current until they stepped in a hole caused by a rip current and were fighting the rip current. It went downhill from there.”

One swimmer managed to climb onto the jetty, but lost sight of the victim during the process.

Officials were called to the scene around 3:20 a.m. They searched the area around the jetty, but didn't find anything.

The body of 49-year-old Jutina Silvey was spotted around 11 a.m. Sunday.
