HOUSTON—There was a disturbing scene in Hermann Park Thursday afternoon where a body was found on a park bench.
The man was wearing a paper shirt from a hospital, jeans and flip flops. He was lying on a bench next to a playground area, about 50 feet away.
"We were playing on the other playground and they asked us to go to the other side." said Carrie Garner, a mother who took her three children to the park.
Some park patrons said they thought the man was just taking a nap until they saw the crime scene tape.
The Hermann Park train passed by the body several times as police officers investigated.
Maurice Breaux was a friend of the dead man.
"I thought he was still resting, but he was dead and gone," Breaux said. "The way he was laying with his shades on, it didn’t look normal to me."
A maintenance man at the park said he spoke to the man Thursday morning.
Police say there were no obvious signs of foul play.
They are looking into whether the man was recently a patient at any of the hospitals within walking distance of the park.
An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
