HOUSTON—A body was recovered Friday in a Cy-Fair lake that authorities were searching for a missing kayaker.

A Harris County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson confirmed that a body had been found in the 9200 block of Wheat Cross near Barker Cypress, but did not release any other information.

Last Saturday afternoon the Harris County Sheriff’s Dive team began searching the murky waters of a man-made pond on Wheat Cross Drive near West Road for 33-year-old Ryan Smith.

A resident found Smith’s kayak floating upside down and his truck parked nearby. His cell phone and personal belongings were still in the vehicle.

Family members said Smith was an avid fisherman and kayaker, who came to the pond often.

Authorities said the pond, which is circled by Canyon Lake Trail, is more than 100 acres and more than 80 feet deep in some spots.
