HOUSTON –- A blood drive in honor of a Harris County Sheriff’s Deputy critically injured in a crash has been planned for Thursday.

County employees can donate from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 23 in the Officer’s Dining Room at the sheriff’s office in downtown Houston at 701 N. San Jacinto Street.

Citizens can visit one of the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center Neighborhood Donor Centers and mention Credit Group Code 8004.

All donations in honor of Denham will go into the general blood supply for all patients in the Texas Gulf Coast region.

It was Tuesday morning when the deputy crashed his patrol car into the back of a pickup on Beltway 8-North. He was sent to the hospital by Life Flight. Five people in the pickup were sent to the hospital as well, two with minor injuries.

The sheriff’s office said Denham is a 10-year veteran of the force. He is married with children.
