HOUSTON—An 18-wheeler ran off the Gulf Freeway Tuesday morning as the driver tried to navigate a curve. The crash happened shortly before 11 a.m.
Amazingly, the driver was transported to the hospital with only minor injuries.
The big rig was traveling northbound on I-45 and was about to connect to the 610 eastbound ramp when the truck fell off the ramp. The driver was going too fast, according to a Houston Police officer on the scene.
The truck landed on the 610 eastbound ramp to Broadway Street. That ramp was expected to be shut down for at least a couple of hours.
The view from Air 11 showed the cab of the truck barely upright, but the trailer ripped apart, spilling a load of plywood onto the road. The engine block was on the grass right in front of the truck and the transmission had also fallen out. The front window had smashed on impact.
