HOUSTON -- A truck driver was taken into custody following a fatal crash in southwest Houston late Sunday, Houston police said.

The crash happened around 10:30 p.m. on Beechnut near Cook Road.

The suspect, Willie James Johnson, Jr., 42, is charged with intoxication manslaughter in the 208th State District Court.

Officers with the Houston Police Department said Johnson ran a red light while turning his 18-wheeler. A driver in a red Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling eastbound on Beechnut when he hit the back of the truck's trailer.

The Tahoe driver was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. His identity was not released, but police said he was 48 years old.

HPD said there were several witnesses to the crash.
