HARRIS COUNTY – Firefighters rescued a woman from a burning home in northeast Harris County Thursday, but they weren’t able to save a man.
The 64-year-old victim was bedridden and trapped in a back bedroom.
The fire broke out around 1 p.m. near Willimette and Archwood in the Sheldon area.
There were no fire hydrants nearby so Sheldon Volunteer firefighters had a tough time fighting the flames.
The woman they rescued had cared for the man who died for several years.
"You always hate to see it," said Harris County Fire Marshal Dean Hemsley. "Our job is to figure out what happened and get closure for the family."
The victim's name hasn't been released.
