BAYTOWN, Texas -- A man was robbed shortly after he left a Baytown ATM on Tuesday evening, police said.
It happened outside the Chase Bank in the 5000 block of Garth Road, according to the Baytown Police Department.
Police said Edwin Kyle, 79, noticed someone approach from behind while he was using the ATM.
"I saw that I probably had a fight on my hands," said Kyle.
When he went out to his car, the same suspect came up and demanded he hand over the money. The suspect threatened to shoot him but never presented a gun, the victim told police. The suspect punched the victim, and then Kyle took a swing before the suspect landed another punch, knocking him to the ground.
"I realized what was happening, but I wasn't scared," said Kyle. "I am pretty sore."
The suspect then fled with the victim’s $340 in a car driven by another person.
There were multiple witnesses to the robbery.
Police said the assailant was described as a black male, 5’ 6” medium build, approx. 185 lbs, taper fade hair, between 20s and 30s, wearing a white t-shirt and blue short jeans. His driver was a white female with short blond hair, between 20s and 30s. They sped away in a silver four-door Mazda with tinted windows.
Kyle has a message for the duo that mugged him.
"I'd tell him I'll kill him next time," said Kyle. "That's what needs to happen to him and all the rest of them that do this. That will put a stop to it."
