HOUSTON— A large grass fire burned for several hours Thursday afternoon near Dobie High School in southeast Houston.
It started just after 2 p.m. in the 9400 block of Hall Road, in the southeast corner of El Franco Lee Park.
Firefighters from at least two dozen departments worked to keep the flames from spreading to the school or nearby homes.
We spoke with Pasadena ISD and they said the wind was blowing the smoke away from the school, so they did not take any action.
A shelter-in-place was issued for the nearby Clear Brook Meadows subdivision as a precaution. It was lifted around 5 p.m. when the fire was brought under control.
No injuries were reported.
Harris County has been under a fire danger warning this week because of the dry, windy conditions.
