HOUSTON – Houston police are investigating the death of a man whose body was found lying on the side of the street at a crash scene Tuesday in northeast Houston.
Paramedics were called to the scene of what was reported as a traffic accident on Peach Tree near Weaver, but when they arrived, they found a man lying in a ditch across the street from a pickup.
He had been shot multiple times.
Police said the 37-year-old victim lives nearby and was a manager at an Auto Zone. He was on his way to work when he was shot.
Family members identified the victim as Damian Johnson. They described him as a decent man, who would give you the shirt off his back if he could.
“Just a family guy who tried to help people,” said Jerell Johnson, the victim’s brother.
He went on to make a personal plea to whoever committed the murder.
“I just hope whoever it is comes forward so that we can find some closure, because it’s very hard when you lose someone as close to you as that. It’s very hard,” he said.
Police do not know why Damian Johnson was targeted, but say robbery may be the possible motive.
