BAYTOWN -- Police say a ring of smash-and-grab robbers are targeting stores in broad daylight.
Officials said around 11:15 a.m. Friday morning, two suspects were in and out of Cash America in just over 30 seconds. They wore hoods as they entered the store near a busy Baytown intersection.
“You see two suspects enter the pawn shop basically with a rubber mallet,” said Baytown police Det. Brian Parker. “Once they enter in, they let the people know to get back. Nobody gets hurt and that’s when they go into smashing the jewelry counters and take the jewelry from there.”
Moving swiftly and efficiently, the suspects are barely caught on camera. They got away with about $13,000 worth of jewelry.
“It makes you think twice, but look at society,” said Baytown resident Russell Howard. “Society is all jacked up right now. That's all I can say.”
A third suspect was waiting in a getaway car.
The suspects were arrested a short time later in Houston.
“After our interview with two of the three suspects, they both confessed and linked other individuals to other smash and grabs in the Houston/Baytown/Harris County area,” said Det. Brian Parker.
Baytown police are working with other jurisdictions in an attempt to track them down.
The suspects were taken to the Harris County Jail on robbery charges.
