HOUSTON – A Sharpstown High School principal who is charged with failing to report allegations of child abuse made a brief court appearance Wednesday morning.

The charges came after a Sharpstown teacher was charged with having an improper relationship with a student.  While Principal Rob Gasparello did not report the case to police, his Attorney Rusty Hardin says the administrator did tell his superiors, which he thought was enough.

“He jumped on this thing immediately and did everything he could to protect these children, and I hope and pray that when this is all over we’ll be able to convince the district attorney’s office, that it was a mistake to charge this man,” said Hardin, who is representing Gasparello for free.

Gasparello will be back in court on Jan. 6.

Two assistant principals are also facing the same charges. One of them, Silvo Leviva, was also in court Wednesday morning. His attorney did not comment.
