HOUSTON – A group of Astros fans auditioned Monday to be the team’s next radio apprentice.

Some 300 people stepped up to the mic to try out.

Troy Goodwin, an unemployed warehouse worker, was one of the hopefuls.

"I think I have the knowledge, the know-how and the voice that brings out the fans and a lot of attention," he said.

The fans were trying to impress a panel of judges that included former Astros coach and pitcher Larry Dierker.

"I’m looking for voice and personality. Somebody who is gonna get out there and go," Dierker said.

The judges will whittle the contestants down to 10 finalists, and then the fans will get their chance to vote for the winner.

That lucky broadcaster will get to be on-air, interviewing players and fans – a dream job open to anyone who enjoys the game.
