WACO — The Galveston and League City fire departments will be part of a statewide memorial service Thursday in honor of those killed in a fertilizer plant explosion in the Central Texas town of West.
West was devastated last week when a fertilizer plant caught fire and exploded. The blast killed 14, injured hundreds more and left large sections of the small town leveled.
League City Fire Chief Brad Goudie said honor guards from departments across the country have sent members to Waco where services will be held at the Baylor University campus. President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama will attend, as will Texas Governor Rick Perry and U.S. Senator John Cornyn.
