HOUSTON – Hurricane Ike hit our area more than one year ago, but the impact has prompted the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston to make big changes.

On Monday, the dioceses announced it is tearing down some of the buildings on Galveston and Bolivar that were damaged beyond repair in the storm.

Some of the land where the torn down structures will also be sold, say officials.

Certain structures at Saint Peter the Apostle, Holy Rosary, Sacred Heart and Our Mother of Mercy will be affected.

The Archdiocese has already consolidated those parishes into one called Holy Family Parish.
