THE WOODLANDS, Texas – Sheriff’s deputies are looking for the man who broke into Thomas Markle Jewelers in The Woodlands overnight.
It was the second jewelry store theft on Market Street in the last week.
The burglar smashed a side window just before midnight. He smashed a glass case with his backpack and scooped up several pieces of jewelry. He was gone within three minutes.
Security cameras captured the crime on video, which was later released to the media.
The sheriff’s office described the suspect as a black male with dreadlocks. He stood about 5’10 and weighed approximately 180 pounds. He wore a white hoodie, gloves and dark-colored shorts.
Thomas Markle Jewelers is located in the same shopping center as a Tiffany’s jewelry store that was robbed on Oct. 10. Investigators don’t think the cases are connected.
The suspect in the Tiffany’s robbery used pepper spray to distract employees while he made off with the loot. Investigators believe the Tiffany’s robber may the same one who held up a Shenandoah bank using pepper spray on Sept. 24.
Residents in the area realize their upscale neighborhoods aren’t immune to crime.
"I think it happens everywhere, but this is one of the nicer communities," said Kay Henson.
"Honestly, nothing shocks me these days. You’re not safe anywhere," said Courtney Kobel. "You’ve got to be careful and I think in an area where, you know, people are going to come in, we are close to the highway."
Anyone with information on the recent burglary or robberies is asked to call the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office at 936-760-5871 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-392-STOP (7867).
