HOUSTON –- An officer slammed into the back of a chase suspect who apparently refused to pull over after running a red light on the north side of town, police said.

The chase started near N. Main Street and E. 24th Street around 2:45 a.m. Wednesday, officers with the Houston Police Department said.

An HPD unit witnessed the suspect run a red light and attempted to pull the car over. Police said a short chase ensued before the suspect failed to make a turn and hit a metal pole. The officer couldn’t stop in time and then hit the suspect, police said.

The driver was taken into custody.
