HOUSTON –- Houston police said a man accused of stealing a beer from a North Houston gas station was taken into custody after a brief scuffle.

Witnesses said around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday the man went into the Love’s store on Patton at the North Freeway and grabbed a single beer. The man then allegedly tried to leave the store without paying, but a security guard stopped him. The suspect pulled out a gun and then ran away, the guard said.

Houston police found the man a few blocks north of the store and attempted to apprehend him. They said the man threw the gun and took off running.

Police said the man suffered a scrape to his face during a scuffle with officers. He was treated at the scene and taken into custody.
