TEXAS CITY — A home invasion robbery that ended with a shootout between an 89-year-old resident and a suspect marked the second time in three years that a Texas City couple was targeted, police and one of the victims said.

Jannette Fletcher, 71, said her husband, Harold Fletcher, 89, helped police catch the latest three suspects by tracking them down and engaging one in a shootout.

The home invasion happened at 6:12 p.m. Jan. 3 in the 1400 block of 19th Avenue North. Authorities charged Alexander Carmona, 31, and Benigno Reyes Jr., 33, both of Houston, and Christopher Rodriguez, 34, of Santa Fe, with burglary of a habitation with intent to commit aggravated robbery.

“We had three guns loaded at our head, and they wanted money,” Jannette Fletcher said. “We didn’t have any money. We told them that. They stole a bunch of stuff and treated us like scum.”
