PASADENA, Texas – Two transportation workers for the Pasadena Independent School District have been terminated after a child was left on a bus, officials said Thursday.
In a press release, the district said a 7-year-old student was found sleeping on a parked bus at the end of the day on Wednesday.
The driver and monitor reportedly failed to inspect the bus before leaving it for the evening. Both have since been fired.
The child was unharmed.
“This should never have happened,” Associate Superintendent Renea Ivy said in a written statement. “Transporting 17,000 students each day to and from school requires careful planning and coordination keeping student safety at the forefront. This incident was an exception not at all typical of our staff. We will continue to train employees and are confident they will enforce procedures to keep students safe.”
