HOUSTON – Seven ambulance crews will not be working Saturday as the battle over the Houston Fire Department’s budget continues.
HFD officials said paying overtime to compensate for manpower shortages and vacation requests means they are $8 million short.
To compensate the department is taking one medic and six ambulance crews out of service.
HFD said the cuts will continue through at least July
HFD confirms as of 6:30 a.m. Saturday, the following transport units will be taken out of service, as indicated in the Chief’s letter to the Mayor:
- Ambulance 40
- Ambulance 47
- Ambulance 5
- Ambulance 12
- Ambulance 80
- Ambulance 56
- Medic 36
