MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas-Two people were killed in a three-car crash in Montgomery County late Monday night.

It happened around 9:45 p.m. on State Highway 242, between the San Jacinto River Bridge and Stonecrest.

When rescue crews arrived at the scene, they found a woman dead in a Toyota Rave and a critically injured woman trapped in a Ford Escape.

Officials said it took crews nearly 45 minutes to free the woman from the mangled SUV.

When she was finally extricated, paramedics said her heart stopped.

CPR was performed, and she was airlifted to Memorial Hermann in The Woodlands, where she was pronounced dead.

Officials said the third car involved was a Ford Taurus.? The driver of that vehicle was hospitalized in stable condition.

State Trooper Daniel Pena said the crash occurred when the woman in the Rave, traveling eastbound on 242, crossed the center line and hit the Escape head-on.

Moments after the crash, the driver of the Taurus, who didn't see the wreckage on the dark road, slammed into the Rave.

DPS officials had 242 closed in both directions until 2 a.m.

While they were working the scene, officials said a vehicle sped through a roadblock at Riverbridge.

A Montgomery County deputy was able to stop the vehicle.

As the deputy tried to get the driver out of the vehicle, officials said the driver threw the car into reverse.

The driver was arrested and taken to the Montgomery County Jail on suspicion of DWI.
