HOUSTON - Looking for free family-friendly events this weekend? You're in luck.

First off, there will be a huge fireworks show at Sylvester Turner Park Saturday night.

This has become an annual Labor Day event for the neighborhood park, named after the long-time Texas lawmaker. Representative Turner said there will be food, drinks, exhibition baseball and live Zydeco music beginning at 6 p.m., followed by a huge 40-minute fireworks show at 8:45 p.m. Everything is free. Sylvester Turner Park is at 2800 West Little York near Bingle.

Also on Saturday, Home Depot will host a kids' workshop.

They host the workshops on the first Saturday of every month. It's a perfect opportunity for children to pick up some carpentry skills by building something fun.? At Saturday's class, kids will be building a bean-bag toss game board. The classes will be offered at any Home Depot location from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

On Sunday, take the family down to Fiestas Patrias at Reliant Park.

The celebration inside Reliant Center will include live music, dancing, period costumes and games, and some restaurants will be on hand to give out samples. All of that is free.

There will also be food vendors at the event.? Parking is $10. Fiestas Patrias marks Mexico's Independence from Spain. The fiesta takes place Sunday from noon to 6 p.m.? Toro and Ronald McDonald are going to be there, too. The event will end with the crowning of Miss Fiestas Patrias.? About 20,000 people are expected to attend.
