HOUSTON-There are scores of restaurants out there willing to feed your children for free. They only ask that for every free kids meal, you buy an adult meal.
Call ahead to ask your favorite restaurant about their kids meal deals, because many only offer free ones on certain days, at certain times to children below certain ages. Also, one restaurant location may offer the deal, while another does not.
"I think it's a good way to get people to come on an off night where they might not be creating a lot," said Jared Graves, father of 3-year-old Pressley and 5-year-old Jacqueline.
Offering free kids meals is nothing new for the Buffalo Wild Wings on Highway 290, but it's certainly timely during the recession, said General Manger Jeff Block.
"That's something that the company has always done from day one. It's always been in place," he said.
A check of major restaurant chains in the Houston area found that some no longer offer free meals, but they do offer low-cost dining for youngsters. Applebee's, for instance, has dollar dining for children, and Casa Ole will feed your young ones for a mere 99-cents.
Here is our list of major restaurants where children can eat free:
Black Eyed Pea
Buffalo Wild Wings
Denny's
Golden Corral
James Coney Island
Prince's Hamburgers
Souper Salad
We found that restaurants in the suburbs seem more likely to offer free kids meals. There are Web sites that track which restaurants are offering them on which days. One of those Web sites is freeinhouston.com. A Google search will turn up others.
