HOUSTON – A woman was charged after her 6-year-old cousin was killed in a suspected drunk-driving wreck in north Houston early Sunday.
It happened on the North Loop at the North Freeway around 12 a.m.
Police said 25-year-old Jamilet Zuniga was driving a maroon Ford Explorer westbound on the North Loop when she lost control and hit the left concrete barrier.
The impact caused the car to roll over, ejecting 6-year-old Blanca Herrera Lopez. Lopez was pronounced dead at the scene.
Five of the six remaining passengers, three adults and two children, were transported to the hospital.
According to witnesses, they were coming from a party, where Zuniga had been drinking. She now faces intoxication manslaughter charges.
