HOUSTON -- Houston police said five men were in custody following a series of vehicle burglaries and a shooting on the north side late Tuesday.

Houston police were called to Werner Street at the North Freeway after a resident said men were breaking into vehicles in the parking lot of an apartment complex.

Two of the suspects had guns and opened fire at the resident. The resident was grazed by a bullet and treated at the scene, police said.

The suspects fled the scene but were spotted about 30 minutes later at another apartment complex.

Police found weapons in their SUV along with items, including car stereos, that officers believe were stolen.

Five people were taken into custody.
