HOUSTON – Five people were hospitalized after a three-vehicle accident early Saturday on Highway 6 in west Houston, police said.

According to the Houston Police Department, it happened around 12:30 a.m. near Patterson when a blue pickup truck heading south tried to make a U-turn in the middle of the road.

The pickup turned in front of oncoming traffic and an SUV heading north slammed into the side of the truck, police said. Then another pickup truck slammed into the SUV.

A passenger from the blue pickup and the driver of the SUV had to be extracted from their vehicles by the Houston Fire Department, police said.

Police said five people were transported to the hospital with one male in serious condition and the four others in stable condition.

HPD will test the driver of the blue pickup to determine if he was intoxicated.
