LIBERTY COUNTY, Texas -- A 4-year-old girl in Liberty County was sent to the hospital by Life Flight after deputies said she was struck by a car being driven by her 12-year-old sister.

The incident happened Tuesday night at a home on C.R. 604 just west of Dayton off Highway 90.

According to deputies with the Liberty County Sheriff’s Department, the 12-year-old girl was moving the family’s Chevrolet sedan to a nearby barn when the incident occurred.

She warned several children playing around the car to get out of the way before she started moving the vehicle, deputies said. She stopped and got out to find that her younger sister was pinned under the car.

The 4-year-old was flown to Memorial Hermann Hospital where she was said to be in stable condition.

“The deputies said it looked like, that most of the injuries were below the right hip bone,” said department spokesman Ken Defoor. “Hopefully it’s not critical, and maybe the injuries aren’t that bad.”

Investigators said they do not expect any charges to be filed in the case.
