DAYTON, Texas – Brown Elementary School in Dayton was locked down late Friday morning following a police chase and suspect search, officials said.

Initially four campuses in the Dayton Independent School District were locked down, Superintendent Michael Kuhrt said. Only the elementary school remained locked down as of 1:30 p.m., but the lockdown was lifted shortly after.

The Dayton Police Department said its officers were looking for two car thief suspects who managed to evade them during a chase. Police dogs were being used in the search, which was concentrated around FM 1409 and State Highway 146.

Police said the suspects crashed their stolen car during a chase around 11:30 a.m. They then ran from the crash.

It was unknown whether the Hispanic male suspects are armed.
