HARRIS COUNTY, Texas—Deputies are searching for a man accused of wounding a 3-year-old boy during a drive-by shooting Tuesday in the Cypress Springs area.
It happened on Cypress Gully Drive at Cypress Prairie Drive shortly before 1 a.m., according to deputies with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
A neighbor told investigators he or she heard two shots and then a white Dodge Charger sped from the scene.
“That vehicle was seen leaving shortly after the shooting, so we are trying to ascertain who that vehicle was and who the driver was of that vehicle,” said Detective Greg Pinkins.
Deputies said one of those bullets went through the wall of a home and struck a young boy. He was sent to the hospital by Life Flight in critical condition.
Investigators said the boy was in the home’s living room when the shooting occurred. His parents weren’t home, but he was being supervised by an adult babysitter and two teenage relatives, deputies said.
Several hours after the incident, family members told KHOU 11 News the young victim was doing well in the hospital.
“He’s in surgery now,” said cousin Holly Dent. “The nurse told his mother that the bullet went straight through, so they’re trying to patch it up so he won’t be bleeding. They said he was okay, playing around and stuff.”
Dent’s family believes they know the shooter. She said he lives nearby and recently go into it with his girlfriend across the street and others. But she said she doesn’t know why he would fire shots at the home.
”I don’t understand if he was trying to get revenge, or trying to retaliate on whatever he was trying to retaliate on. But at the end of the day, you shot a baby basically,” she said.
Deputies have charged 21-year-old Izacc Williams with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, but they have yet to find him.
