HOUSTON – Two men were killed and another was injured in a shooting at a Clear Lake apartment early Sunday, police said.
It happened at the Bay Crest Village apartments at Buccaneer Lane near Seafoam around 3:30 a.m.
"This was intentional," said Sgt. Ora Chandler with the Houston Police Department. "All three victims were shot directly in the head."
Chandler said the men appeared to be playing video games at the time of the shooting, since one of the victims was found on the couch.
"He did appear to have been engaged to some type of video game," she said. "He doesn’t appear to have done a lot of movement so he probably was caught off guard."
Neighbors said the man who lived in the apartment had only moved in within the past two months and was from El Salvador.
"It’s scary," said neighbor Melanie Martin, who heard the gunshots. "They had gotten back around 3 a.m. and they had been playing video games and were real loud and then the next thing you know, you hear the gunshots."
HPD spokesman John Cannon said the two men who died were 21 and 29 years old. The survivor, 22, was somehow able to walk to a nearby apartment for help.
Cannon said the survivor was a cousin of one of the other victims, but he would not release their names.
Still, one grieving relative told the Houston Chronicle that one of the men who died was named Jesus Carbajal.
Detectives are now searching for the gunman who they say likely knew the victims because there was no forced entry. He’s believed to have fled in a dark-colored sedan, Cannon said.
Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at (713) 222-TIPS.
