HOUSTON— A robbery suspect remained hospitalized following a confrontation with Harris County Sheriff’s deputies Thursday at a northeast Houston cash-and-loan business.

Authorities said witnesses flagged down the deputy with reports of a holdup in progress at the business, located in the 500 block of Uvalde Road. The deputy waited for backup to arrive and then proceeded to enter the building.

"Then we have an armed suspect that comes out from a back area of the business," said Sheriff’s Office Spokesperson Christina Garza. "There’s an exchange of some sort. The deputy fearing for his life fires his weapon at that suspect."

The suspect was transported to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the arm. Two other suspects were taken into custody. All of the men are expected to be charged with armed robbery.

The Houston Police Department is heading up the investigation because the incident occurred within city limits.

An eyewitness, who recorded the incident with his cell phone, said he couldn’t believe what he captured on video.

"I work in a refinery and try to earn an honest living," said Josh Thomas. "This was crazy."
