La Marque High School student arrested, accused of taking loaded gun to school

HOUSTON – Officers arrested a 17-year-old student who is accused of bringing a loaded handgun onto the campus of La Marque High School Wednesday morning,  La Marque police said.

Police were called to the campus, located at 300 Vautheir, at about 10:50 a.m. after school officials received an anonymous tip.

Investigators said they found Jerome Jeray Joiner with a loaded semi-automatic handgun on school property. The caliber of the handgun was a .380.

Joiner was taken into custody and transported to the La Marque Police Department Jail. He was charged with unlawful carrying weapon within a weapon-free zone, a state jail felony with a bond amount of $5,000.

Police said they are trying to figure out why Joiner took the loaded handgun to the school and how the handgun was obtained.
