HOUSTON – A 23-year-old man was charged with intoxication manslaughter on Monday stemming from a fatal accident this past weekend in northeast Harris County, court documents state.
According to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, Craig Welch is charged with one count of intoxicated manslaughter with a vehicle in the death of Omar Jaramillo, of Houston, early Sunday morning in an accident at the intersection of FM 1960 and West Lake Houston Parkway.
According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, Welch was heading west on FM 1960 in his Chevrolet Tail Blazer when he ran a red light at West Lake Houston Parkway and slammed into the side of Jaramillo’s red Chevrolet Corvette around 12:15 a.m.
Jaramillo died at the scene, while his mother Irene Jaramillo, a passenger in the car, was taken to a local hospital in stable condition, deputies said.
Welch was taken into custody at the scene, but his male passenger fled the scene on foot.
