HOUSTON -- Firefighters took in a two-year-old boy found wandering the dark streets of southeast Houston early Thursday, police said.
According to officers with the Houston Police Department, the boy somehow slipped out the back door of his home on Avenue Q in the early morning hours. The child apparently wandered several blocks and made several turns before a couple found the child and took him to a nearby fire department.
Police and firefighters waited several hours before a report of a missing child came in.
A subsequent investigation revealed the child left his home as his mother slept, and the boy’s father returned from work and called 911 when he found the boy gone and door cracked open.
The boy was not harmed.
Police said investigators from Texas Child Protective Services would look over the toddler and interview his parents before being returned home.
